Sandra Alvaro has studied art (Massana School, Barcelona) and Philosopy (UB, UAB).
Her work is focussed on the investigation of the everyday life in urban environments, considering urban spaces as a complex and heterogeneous system where the mass and computing media have an increasing ubiquity. The objective of this research is to construct art devices able to contribute recuperating the creative conscience and the capacity of the looking subject to intervene into the environment. In short, the aim is to create and island for the alternative edition of the reality, where the subject can reconstruct his next environment at the same time that he can rebuild his identity and the relationships with everything around him.
Nowadays, Sandra Alvaro is working in her PhD thesis entitled: “Art and New Media from Utopia to Heteropia”, in the Aesthetics Department of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Her research is about how New Media are affecting the perception and the relationships we establish with our entourage, and how art can take part on the proposition of new strategies for visualization and ways of action and intervention.
“Walking on the Street” is the artistic project that the authoress develops in parallel to her PhD thesis. This is a documentation process about the daily life in different cities seen from the ground floor. In this process she compiled a material that is processed to create different art works/devices with the aim of proposing new possibilities of life and relation.
Recently Sandra Alvaro has been invited researcher at the Paragraphe/CITU laboratory from Paris 8 University, where she has been developing the project WoS/Occupation, one of the first products of this investigation.
